International Padel Rating

The International Padel Rating (IPR) is a scale for self-assessment of the level of play. This scale allows all players to identify their own level by means of a self-assessment and can be a useful tool for masters to use when structuring groups or organising amateur tournaments with players of the same level.

The scale starts from level 1.0 (total beginner) to level 7.0 (top professional) and is based on well-defined parameters. It is not a fixed assessment but one that varies according to the skills acquired over time by the player and his physical condition at the time. In fact, in addition to the technical parameters, the final evaluation takes into account the player's physical condition at the time of his IPR.

1.0 Complete beginner player

1.5 Amateur player with little experience, has taken a few lessons but has difficulty in controlling strokes and holding the dribble.

2.0 Player who has gained confidence from the baseline, but avoids going to the net. Has difficulty playing balls that bounce against the wall. Lacks special strokes.

2.5 Player beginning to control fundamental shots. Still does not feel confident at net, but begins to go there more frequently. At this stage begins to respond to some bounces at the wall and tries to execute new shots such as lobs and smashes.

3.0 Player who begins to play not only flat shots but also with spin. The serve and response become more consistent. The volley technique is satisfactory and he/she is able to play bounces against the wall with more confidence.

3.5 A confident player in fundamental strokes, he also executes volleys quite successfully and plays regular games. Still lacks control over the depth of his shots. First serve is good, second serve is still insecure. He is a club player who participates in the social ranking and in internal club tournaments. Finally, he also manages to take his position on the court in accordance with his partner.

4.0 An experienced player who dominates the fundamental strokes and begins to develop strokes such as the descent from the wall from both sides and the 'bandeja'. The volley game is solid and smashes are beginning to be hit with adequate power and direction. He still has difficulties with rebounds to the wall coming from the backhand side.

4.5 Player who is able to play all the shots and dominates the different phases of the game. He serves with precision and commits few double faults. Responses are aggressive and controlled. Has a good position at net but still commits errors when he pushes. He manages to execute conclusive smashes by getting the ball out of the court on a few occasions. Occasionally, he executes stop-volleys. Plays federal tournaments and gets his first victories.

5.0 Excellent player. Commits few errors with the backhand and volley, the runs off the wall are aggressive and he is starting to be more 'tidy' on court. He prepares his points by exploiting his opponents' weaknesses. He takes more risks and is aware of his own strengths. Has a federal ranking of 4th category.

From level 5.5 to 7.0, players play federal tournaments or on the World Padel Tour. From this level onwards, we can speak of an advanced level player. An identification can be made according to the following parameters:

5.5 3rd category player.

6.0 2nd category player.

6.5 1st category player.

7.0 World Padel Tour player
